Therapy
Therapy offers a space to step out of the day-to-day demands of life and begin to think more clearly about what’s going on.
For many people, everything can look as though it is working well from the outside. You manage your responsibilities, relationships and the expectations placed on you — often very well. But how things feel on the inside can be quite different.
What brings people here
What brings people to therapy
People I work with don’t always arrive with a clear explanation of what’s wrong.
It might feel more like:
A sense of pressure that is difficult to switch off
Self-doubt that doesn't quite fit with how capable you appear to others
Patterns in your relationships or responses that you don't fully understand
Feeling stretched, stuck or quietly overwhelmed
A feeling that something isn't quite right, even though it is difficult to put your finger on what that is
For some people, there is also a sense that things which have happened in the past are still having an impact, despite having been put to one side or managed for a long time. You may also find that the ways you've learned to cope aren't working quite as well as they once did.
Therapy gives you somewhere to explore these things without needing to have the answers before you begin.
Deeper understanding
Understanding what may sit beneath the surface
Sometimes our work may involve looking more closely at experiences, patterns or emotional responses that you haven't previously had the opportunity to properly explore.
This might include earlier or significant experiences where it feels relevant and helpful.
This isn't about going back over the past simply for the sake of it. It's about understanding how those experiences may still be influencing how you feel, respond or relate to others today — and what may begin to change once you understand those connections
The therapeutic process
What our work together may look like
My approach is grounded in person-centred therapy, so our work begins with you — your experiences, your pace and whatever feels most important to talk about.
I also work integratively, which means I can draw on different therapeutic perspectives and ways of working when they may be helpful. There isn't one particular formula that everyone is expected to fit.
Together, we might notice patterns, think about relationships, explore emotional responses or make sense of experiences that are still affecting you.
Some sessions may be more reflective and exploratory. Others may be more practical, or involve gently challenging the way you have come to see something. What matters is that the work feels relevant to you and gives us room to focus on what you need
Therapy options
Individual, relationship, and young person therapy
I offer individual therapy, relationship counselling, and therapy for young people aged 11+.
Individual therapy
Individual therapy gives you a space that is entirely your own. It can be a chance to understand more about how you think and feel, the ways you respond to situations, and how you relate to yourself and the people around you.
Relationship counselling
Relationship counselling gives you both a space to talk openly about what is happening between you. We can look at patterns that may have developed, how you communicate with one another and the dynamics within your relationship, with the aim of helping you understand each other more clearly and find a way forward.
Young people 11+
Growing up brings its own pressures, and sometimes having someone outside of family, school and friendships to talk to can make a real difference. I offer young people a supportive, age-appropriate space where they can talk about whatever is going on for them
This might include emotional wellbeing, relationships, confidence, family dynamics, pressure, identity or experiences that are difficult to understand or put into words. I adapt the way I work to the individual young person, giving them the time and space they need to feel comfortable and heard
For me, good therapy begins with understanding the person, not simply the difficulties they bring. My aim is to offer a thoughtful, supportive approach that recognises your individual needs and experiences, and allows us to work together in a way that feels right for you.
